Official TWRP v3.3.1 for Redmi Note 8 Pro: Mirror Link + Install Guide 1

Redmi Note 8 Pro is currently the latest iteration of Redmi Note family that surprisingly boasts MediaTek Helio chipset instead of the more popular Qualcomm Snapdragon. The phone is expected to dominate the mid-range lineups in the gaming phone niche.

Equipped with a quad-camera setup, the phone with codename Begonia is surely a great mobile photography handset as well. The phone together with its standard variant have gained millions of sales around the globe.

However, being the phone with the best performance in the mid-range segment sometimes not satisfying, especially for those flashing maniacs.

The fact that we can still unlock its true potentials is one of many reasons to unlock its bootloader. Once unlocked, it’s just opening a way to the custom mods heaven.

The very first tool required as the vehicle to go to that destination is TWRP.

What is TWRP

TWRP is a custom recovery built with ease of use and customization in mind. It’s a full touch driven user interface no more volume rocker or power buttons to mash. The GUI is also fully XML driven and completely theme-able. You can change just about every aspect of the look and feel.

In short, TWRP is the best custom recovery to replace the default one. The stock Mi Recovery does not support touchscreen display and hence, using button combo is the only method to navigate around the menus.

Install Guide

These steps below outline the complete sequence on how to install TWRP recovery on Redmi Note 8 Pro. The process is basically similar to flashing the recovery on any other Xiaomi phones, except those powered with Android One.

Despite we can guarantee that the method is safe, we still encourage you to create backups of your data and files.

It is a good habit to create backups before modding your phone. Therefore, you can always restore it anytime.

Bad things always happen. We hold NO responsibility for any damages to your phone. Nobody points a gun to tour head forcing you to install TWRP.

Please proceed with caution!

Step 1 – Unlock the bootloader of your Redmi Note 8 Pro. This process wipes your data. You’ll like doing a factory reset. That’s why we suggest you create backups.

Step 2 – Download and extract Xiaomi ADB Fastboot Driver zip file and install it on your computer. Make sure you install it on C:\adb\. This installs the driver system-wide.

Step 3 – Also, download Android Platform Tools which is available on the same page as the ADB Fastboot Driver. Extract the zip file. A new folder called platform-tools will exist. No installation is needed.

Step 4 – Download the official TWRP version from the link above. Place the TWRP .img file right into the platform-tools folder.

Step 5 – Enable USB Debugging option in the Developer Options. Go to:

Settings >> About Phone >> tap MIUI Version several times >> You are a developer!

Settings >> Additional Settings >> Developer Options >> USB Debugging >> Switch ON

Step 6 – Connect your Redmi Note 8 Pro to your computer using its USB cable.

Step 7 – Open up Windows Explorer and go to the platform-tools folder. From there, launch up the Command Prompt window. Simply type cmd in the address bar followed by hitting the Enter key.

Congratulation! You have flashed official TWRP version on Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Things to Remember

First, doing Swipe to Allow modifications is required only once.

Second, step 10 -12 are required to patch the stock ROM to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP. Failed to follow this step, you will have to repeat the install process.

Third, official TWRP v3.3.1-0 have some bugs: Data  Decryption is broken, and the backlight issues persist on Indian models.

Therefore, you may need to disable data encryption. How? Disable any security patterns on lockscreen, hidden folders, and second space (if any). Flashing TWRP on a fresh Redmi Note 8 Pro will have you an advantage.

Otherwise, you may need to format data.
