Almost all flashing maniacs will need this, the standalone pack of MIUI firmware. In case you didn’t know it yet, a firmware file is not the same as the full Android ROM.
Basically, some people call firmware referring to the same thing as ROM. In the Xiaomi world, the thing is a little bit different.
MIUI firmware is a pack of low-level drivers which helps the operating system (Android OS) do whatever it wants to do. This includes various things like Telephony, Modem, Bluetooth, Bootloader, DSP, and so on.
On the other hand, a ROM file is a pack of full Android operating system including the firmware. Hence, please don’t get lost with the terminology.
Generally, you don’t need to download MIUI firmware regularly if your phone is running the official MIUI ROM.
Every time you update the MIUI either through OTA or by flashing the full ROM file, you’ll also get the firmware updated.
You will need it only if you flash a custom ROM. Not all custom ROMs require you to flash the firmware file tho. Some have come with it built-in.

Below you can grab flash-able MIUI 11 firmware packs for both Redmi Note 8 (codename Ginkgo) and Redmi Note 8T (codename Willow).
Both devices are basically the same phone with only one difference. The 8T variant has NFC while the original Redmi Note 8 does not have.
Which one is yours? If you live in European countries, your phone must be the 8T, unless if you import it. Go to Settings, then see it in the About Phone section.
