Expected Bug

Recently, Xiaomi has implemented some kind of protection to prevent any attempt in replacing Mi Stock Recovery.

However if you had not managed to boot into Orange Fox recovery (Step 17), you can try this.

First, try reflashing Orange Fox again. Once you flashed it (Step 16), do not hit the Reboot button. Instead, type this in the command prompt or PowerShell window:

fastboot reboot

Do not hit Enter on your keyboard just yet. Grab your phone, press the Power and Volume Up buttons together, then hit Enter on your keyboard. This trick prevents stock MIUI ROM to replace the custom recovery with the stock one.

  1. i got stuck at step 11 it dont rebbot to orangefox i tryed the buton combo with no success i get to xiaomi recovery menu plz help

    1. It’s your lockscreen password, and if it’s a PIN combination, you’ll need to convert it. Otherwise, you need to format data because decryption fails. You can also try to disable all our lockscreen password/PIN including those for Hidden files/folders

  2. fastboot boot recovery.img

The above command is not working. I get success message in console but no visual change on the device itself.

    Please help.

    1. Hello I have the same problem with my PC on ubuntu this is perhaps due to the version of ADB-Fastboot. I will try with a windows Laptop

  3. Hello, so after step 11 there is no progress, it just reboots back to system, and when i manually reboot it into recovery, its still redmi recovery 3.0. Any pointers or help? :/

  4. EDIT, if youre facing problems at step 11 for not seeing the O.F recovery page, the command shell command should be ‘fastboot flash recovery recovery.img’ INSTEAD OF ‘fastboot boot recovery.img’

  5. you said “It’s your lockscreen password, and if it’s a PIN combination, you’ll need to convert it.”
what do you mean convert it ..convert it to what
for context twrp doesnt make me enter a password for decryption however i have a lockscreen password and all the internal files and folders on twrp seem to be encrypted showing strange combinations of letter.. i tried the ~# twrp decrypt /data but it prints “decryption failed”
