Android 9.0 Pie Comes Officially to Redmi Note 5 (Whyred) with MIUI v10.3.1.0

Android 9.0 Pie Comes Officially to Redmi Note 5 (Whyred) with MIUI v10.3.1.0 1

First of all, I would like to say Happy Ied Mubarak for all our fellow Muslims around the globe. It’s been a long day for us to not updating you with latest MIUI updates.

Speaking of which, there is a great news for all Whyred users. Well, in case you forgot, Whyred is the codename of Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro/Ai/Global. Please don’t get confused with Redmi Note 5 India that has codename Vince. Globally, Vince is known as Redmi 5 Plus.

The wait for Android 9.0 Pie is now completely over! Xiaomi has officially rolled out the latest MIUI Global Stable build for Redmi Note 5. The MIUI version arrives a couple days ago.

There are few internal improvements and enhancements coming within this MIUI version. Nevertheless, one key upgrade is the existence of Android 9.0 Pie as system base.

Android 9.0 Pie itself boasts a bunch of improvements and new features. Some of its notable features is Dark Mode out of the box.

You can now enable Android Dark Mode system wide without having to install third-part themes. Other highlighted Pie’s features include Adaptive battery, adaptive brightness, App Actions, Slices, Intuitive navigation, Digital Wellbeing, and many more. You can check them out here.

Redmi Note 5 is a great Android phone. It should have already received the update. Previously, Xiaomi had tested it through MIUI 10 v9.3.28 Global Beta ROM.

Redmi Note 5 has received its iterations which are Redmi Note 6 Pro and Redmi Note 7, and 7 Pro. However, none of its iterations can recreate the success of Redmi Note 5 in terms of sales number. Five millions units have been sold in India only.

Adding the number of sales in India and the number of sales of Redmi Note 5 AI in china and other side of the world (Europe and South East Asia), the number increases significantly.

It means there are more than 5 million users of Redmi Note 5.

With a huge number of users, Xiaomi has to pay attention more and brings faster software updates regularly.

Previously, many of its users opted to flash custom Android ROM just to get the Pie experience. It means they had to ditch MIUI and had to undergo a lengthily process of unlocking bootloader.

This official release of Android 9.0 Pie is for sure a refreshing breeze for Redmi Note 5 users.

Redmi Note 5 receives Android Pie update within MIUI 10 v10.3.1.0.PEIMIXM. The code within its version number explains everything about this release.

  1. The first letter (P) represents the Android codename in which the ROM was built from, the Android 9.0 Pie.
  2. The 2nd and 3rd letters are the code for MIUI device variants. In this case is EI which means Redmi Note 5 codename Whyred.
  3. The 4th and 5th letters represent the type of the build: either Global or China. CN is for China while others are for Global. This build has code MI which means Global build.
  4. The 6th and 7th are just a unique code for the release.

  1. Hi. I know this is not the right place for me complaining. But after this update, I can’t use “open link” option in Kustom Live Wallpaper (KLWP).
I tried everything, but I suspect the problem is with this updated MIUI.

  2. Hi Fariez,

Thank you for the article. I had a chinese version Redi Note 5 AI hardware and after the MIUI version (global version) OTA update i bricked my phone unknowingly.

Now i wan’t to recovery flash with a higher version of stable chinese ROM, so that i can unlock bootloader and install the latest global version; can you please share the chinese version MIUI rom (higher than the current global ROM version). Thanks again

    1. i guess i found it, but sadly the current/ latest chinese stable ROM version available is – MIUI 10 V10.3.1.0.PEICNXM at

I tried flashing this ROM yesterday, by downloading through Mi Flash Pro tool; and i received an error message – “sorry, flash older version is not allowed”.

If anyone is aware of any other chinese stable ROM links (higher than the version mentioned above), please post it here. Thank you.
