This article guides you through the correct steps on a clean flashing ArrowOS custom Android 9 Pie ROM on Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Whyred (Pro India, AI China/Global). This ROM is not the best but it is the most neat Android system offering simplicity in mind.

Based on Android 9.0 Pie, this ROM is surely an alternative for Whyred users who want to taste the sleekness goodness of Android Pie. The official MIUI ROM for Redmi Note 5 is still built upon Android 8.1 Oreo.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 is currently available in two variants: the Pro version released in India, and the AI version released in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, and some countries in Europe. Nevertheless, both sport similar specs and share the same codename: Whyred.

Whyred has been the best selling devices in India and in South Asian countries. The device boasts Qualcomm SDM636 Snapdragon 636 (14 nm finfet chipset) with Octa-core 1.8 GHz Kryo 260 processors and Adreno 509 GPU (Graphic Processing Unit). Steps to Install ArrowOS on Redmi Note 5

Step 1. Unlock your phone bootloader. We wrapped up a complete steps on how to do this officially. Read the full tutorial on MIUI bootloader unlocking here.

Step 2. Flash a custom recovery. You can use the official TWRP, Red Wolf TWRP, Orange Fox, or Pitch Black TWRP. As per our preference, we recommend you to use the Red Wolf Recovery.

Step 3. Download ArrowOS fash-able zip file for Whyred here.

Step 4. Download either Pico or Nano build of OpenGApps.

Step 5. Connect your phone to your computer and transfer/copy the zip files to your phone. Alternatively, you can copy it on SD card.

Step 6. Now reboot your phone to recovery mode. Turn it off completely, then press the Power button and Volume Up button simultaneously.

Step 7. Allow system modification if it is your first time. Otherwise, you should now be in the main menu.

Step 8. Tap on the “Wipe” button. Wipe the System, Data, Dalvik, and Cache.

Step 9. Go back to the main menu and tap the “Install” button.

Step 10. Locate the ArrowOS ZIP file you have copied earlier. Tap on it to select it.

Step 11. Install it by doing the “Slide to start flashing” action.

Step 12. Wait for the recovery to finish its flashing task.

Step 13. Go back to main menu. Tap on the “Install” menu again.

Step 14. Locate and select the Opengapps zip file.

Step 15. Install it by doing the “Slide to start flashing” action.

Step 16. Wait till the process completed. Finally, tap on “Reboot“.

Voila! Once rebooted, your phone should now run ArrowOS Android 9 Pie.

Initial booting may take time.
