Switching for Mi stock recovery to the TWRP custom recovery is a cool thing to do right after you obtained bootloader unlocking authorization. TWRP is the best custom recovery not only for Xiaomi phones but also for most of the Android phones.
However, the only drawback of replacing the stock recovery with a custom one is the malfunction of the MIUI OTA update mechanism. You may still be able to download the incremental OTA update to your phone. The downloaded update will still unable to install.
The absence of stock Mi recovery prevents the device to apply the downloaded OTA update.
This situation is also applicable to Redmi 7.
Luckily, some developers have managed to fork the original TWRP and they made it compatible to install incremental MIUI OTA update.
One of those forked TWRP is Pitch Black Recovery Project in which we may also call it Pitch Black TWRP a.k.a PBRP.
This article shows you exactly how to enable full support of MIUI OTA update within Pichblack TWRP easily. The method is basically easy. You just need to read the whole steps thoroughly and apply them correctly.
