- Flashing Guide: Steps to flash AEX ROM on Redmi 7
Having a budget phone doesn’t mean that you have to leave with it unmodified. Even a cheap entry-level Android phone can go further with tweaks and modifications.
Announced in March 2019, Redmi 7 is Xiaomi’s latest iteration of company’s entry-level Android phone bringing drastic upgrades over its predecessor the Redmi 6.
The phone sports Qualcomm SDM632 Snapdragon 632 (14 nm) SoC that empowers Octa-core CPUs (4×1.8 GHz Kryo 250 Gold & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 250 Silver) and Adreno 506 GPU.
With such decent horsepower, it would be a waste if the phone runs on its default setup.
Own a Redmi 7? You can play around with it and take it to a higher level with a custom ROM.
About Custom ROM
A custom ROM is a non-official Android ROM built for a specific device. That said, any Android ROMs built, maintained, or released by other developers than the manufacturers’ are fell within this definition.
Redmi 7 comes running MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie by default. MIUI is the official ROM of Redmi 7. It is basically a skinned version of Android OS with custom features added.
Don’t get us wrong, MIUI is a good Android ROM. It boasts many cool features despite controversial in-device advertisements. Luckily, Xiaomi has announced committing to give users options to deactivate the ads.
What is AEX ROM
AEX stands for AOSP Extended which is an AOSP based ROM. AEX provides stock Android UI/UX experience with useful customizations (read: more key features).
Being stock Android ROM gives simplicity, smoothness, and sleek user’s experience. AEX simply extends the nature of being AOSP to an advanced cool level.
AEX ROM packs useful customizations ported from other open-source projects and have tried to keep things simple. Despite many cool things being added, the developers focus only on essential “things” and hence it keeps the system bloatware-free.
