Breaking news! Xiaomi has finally released the much anticipated Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max! This release was held on March 12, 2020, through an online event due to the latest Covid-19 Coronavirus outbreak.
All Redmi Note series phones are now under the Redmi umbrella, a sub-brand of Xiaomi.
We still remember how successful was the Redmi Note 3 Pro back then. Since then, Redmi Note series keeps bringing the strongest sales to the company.
Xiaomi has transformed from a notorious China cheap phone maker brand to a popular great-value-for-money brand in many countries, both developing and developed countries.
The release of Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max marks another legacy of Redmi Note series.
An interesting point is that Redmi Note 9 Pro Max is dubbed as the replacement of the discontinued Mi Max series.
Key Specifications
Starting this section from the main engine providing horsepower for both devices would be more interesting.
The yesteryear’s discussion was so intense on why Xiaomi opted to use MediaTek chipset for Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Its successors, the 9 Pro and Pro Max, both make use of Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset. The SoC is manufactured under 8nm fabrication process making its die amazingly efficient.
Snapdragon 720G brings 8 CPUs consisting of 2x Kryo 465 ARM Cortex-A76 processor clocked @2.3GHz and 6x Kryo 465 ARM Cortex-A55 processor clocked @1.8GHz.
Luckily, both devices come with the same chipset.
While both phones sport the same dimensions of 165.7 x 76.6 x 8.8 mm and a weight of 209 gram, their camera setups are different.
Main Camera
Both phones come powered with Samsung ISOCELL Bright sensor but the peak resolutions are different.
The 9 Pro Max boasts 64MP camera having an aperture of f/1.89 and 1/1.72” sensor size.
The younger brother the 9 Pro comes with only 48MP resolution having a wider aperture of f/1.79.
Additional Rear Cameras
Both phones also come with secondary, tertiary, and quaternary cameras.
Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max are Xiaomi’s first camera series to come with a quad-camera setup similar to iPhone 11 but is sitting in the middle rear.
The secondary camera is an 8MP wide-angle camera with 119° point of view and f/2.2 aperture.
The tertiary camera is basically a macro camera with 5MP effective pixel. You can use it to shot beautiful flowers up close.
The quaternary one is a complementary 2MP depth-sensor camera useful to capture portrait photography with depth of field effect (bokeh).

Front Camera
Both phones come with a hole-punch front shooter. The layout and design are similar, but its resolution is different.
The Max variant comes with 32MP selfie camera while the vanilla version sports only a half-resolution of Max’s, 16MP.
Nevertheless, both phones can produce beautiful selfie thanks to Xiaomi’s AI photography technology.

Videography
The main cameras of both phones are capable of producing high-quality cinematic videos.
Thanks to the Qualcomm chipset and Samsung camera sensor cell, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Pro Max can shot ultra HD 4K videos at 30 frames per second (fps).
Shooting at 1080p resolution allows you to capture videos at a double frame rate at 60 fps.
Need a slow-motion effect (slow-mo)?
You can choose to shot 1080p videos @120fps or 720p videos @960fps.
Want to be more cinematic? Thanks to its wide-angle view camera you can also use the phone to shot 21:9 cinematic videos.
New Finger Scanner Location
Notice the photo of camera layout above! Can you see what is missing?
The fingerprint scanner!
Xiaomi has made a bold move by moving the fingerprint scanner to the side of the phone body.
This makes the overall look of both phones premium!
RAM and Storage
The lowest variant has 4GB RAM with 64GB flash storage. This variant is available only on Redmi Note 9 Pro.
Redmi Note 9 Pro Max has the highest storage specs of 64GB UFS 2.1 along with other variants of 6GB/128GB and 8GB.128GB.
Other Specs
The body of both phone variants adopts a glass-sandwich design. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 sits on both front and rear body.
The screen resolution is 6.67″ FHD+ (full high definition) with 2400×1080 resolution. It’s an IPS LCD tho so please do not expect MIUI AOD feature unless you hacked it.
A standard 3.5mm audio jack and IR blaster are available in all variants.
