Hi again guys! May be you are one of the luckiest people on this planet to hand on Xiaomi’s latest flagship device, the Mi 9 codename Cepheus. The phone is incredible in terms of performance, features, and build quality. The best part, the device is available far cheaper than its flagship contenders from other famous brands.
Backed up with Qualcomm SDM855 Snapdragon 855 (7 nm) chipset, the device has more than enough house power to run almost any kind of tasks for mobile device. It boasts Octa-core CPUs incorporating 1×2.84 GHz Kryo 485 & 3×2.42 GHz Kryo 485 & 4×1.8 GHz Kryo 485 processors. The CPUs are so powerful but efficient.
The phone is Xiaomi’s first triple cameras flagship that incorporate wide, ultrawide, and telephoto lenses.
The first camera boasts 48 MP camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 27mm wide angle lens, 1/2″ sensor large, and 0.8µm pixel size.
The second camera has 16 MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 13mm ultrawide angle, 1/3.0″ sensor large, and 1.0µm pixel size.
The third one has smaller megapixel size with only 12 MP. It features f/2.2 aperture, 54mm telephoto lens, 1/3.6″ sensor size, and 1.0µm pixel size. This camera has its own advantage which is 2x optical zoom.
Optical zoom is different than digital zoom in term of the quality of photos captured.
The camera specifications available within Xiaomi Mi 9 are super amazing. On top of that, you can also record 4K video with 2160p @ 30fps and 60fps.
Love to capture cinematic footage videos? Mi 9 can also shot 1080p@30/120/240fps and 1080p super slow motion @960fps.

Despite being super amazing thanks to its hardware and stock software, some users might still want to boost its performance even further using after market software.
One of third-party camera apps being popular of its stunning result is ported Google Camera. Known simply as Gcam, the ported build of Gcam is basically a modified build compatible with devices other than Google Nexus or Pixel phones.
Google releases the app specifically for Pixel phones (Google Pixel 2, 2XL, 3, 3XL, and the upcoming Pixel 3A). Thanks to developers such as Arnova, BSG, Cstark, etc. for their success porting the app for other phones.
There are so many versions and builds of ported Gcam by various developers. Hence, it is difficult to determine which version, build, or APK compatible for a certain device.
The easiest solution for this issue is learning from what others have experienced.
This article will list all available Gcam builds compatible for Xiaomi Mi 9 cameras. We will update the article once newer builds are released. Hopefully, it can guide you to the right builds of Gcam that you can actually use.
Nevertheless, there is no perfect thing. You may still expect some bugs but the Gcam APK files available below are the ones with least bugs. You can still use it conveniently.
Download Gcam APK for Mi 9
Google Camera requires Android Camera2 API to work properly. Luckily, the Mi 9 comes with Camera2 API enabled by default.
It means you no longer need to unlock bootloader and root your phone. Rooting your device still gives you more advantages though.
That said, you can simply download Gcam APK files below and install it directly on your phone. That’s it. You may also need to enable installation for unknown sources if this the first time you install APK downloaded from third-parties.
Gcam Xtrme Build
Xtrme (read Xtreme) is one of 4PDA forum member that develops ported Gcam based on BSG and Arnova8G2 works. He modifies the Gcam and makes it compatible for the device he owns.
He owned Xiaomi Mi 8 and One Plus 6 in the past. Recently, he owns Xiaomi Mi 9 which is lucky for us. Lol..
That being said, the Gcam build that he made below has been optimized specifically for Mi 9. There is no further config needed.

Gcam Fu24 Build
Fu24 is one of developers joined in XDA. His works are based on other developers’ works (Arnova, BSG, etc). One advantage of his Gcam build is the toggle to switch between cameras. Gcam Fu24 build is optimized for devices with several cameras, such as Xiaomi Mi 9.

- Each lens set individually noise reduction parameter .
- Each lens set individually saturation.
- Fixed xml settings import. Thanks xtrme for debug.
Notes on camera switch (toggle)
The camera switch buttons use colors to distinguish between cameras used. The information is as below:
- White: Auxiliary lens does not support
- Blue: Wide lens
- Purple: Telephoto lens
- Red: Ultrawide lens
How to switch between cameras?
- Single tap: Camera switch button to switch between Regular and Front cameras.
- Long press: Camera Switch Button to switch to Ultrawide lens.
- Long press: Photo Preview Button to switch to Telephoto lens.
How to enable Night Sight mode in every camera? Doing so is simple but needs a little practice. Select the lens in main mode >> switch to the Night Mode >> then double tap the camera switch button.
Best Settings with Configuration .XML
This XML config file tweaks the Beta 3 build for the best settings:
- slightly tweaked main camera and selfies.
- changed aux lib to GLib.
- changed denoise for tele and wide lenses.
- reduced frames to 7, sharper results according to Savitar.
How to apply Gcam Config XML file?
Simply download the .xml file above to your phone. Next, move it to the
/GCam/Configs/. You may need to create that folder manually. Make sure the “GCam” folder is in the same root directory as DCIM.
How to create Gcam Config folder? See how to create the folder here.
Now open the Google Camera app, double click the dark area around the capture button, select the config, and then click on “restore“. See illustration below.
Xiaomi Mi 9 is a real flagship device and it delivers what its specifications are capable of. The use of Google Camera brings its performance in mobile photography to a slightly higher level.
The stock Mi 9 camera app coming within the MIUI 10 is already good. However, the Gcam app features some advanced modes not available within the stock camera.
p.s: All above builds of ported Gcam do not incorporate ARCore feature (not yet).
Xiaomi Mi 9 comes with Camera2 API enabled by default. Hence, installing and using Gcam ports on Mi 9 is easier than other phones, especially those in the budget and mid-range lines.
