How to Install TWRP on Mi 8 EE
Step 1. Unlock the bootloader of your phone. This is a must. You can flash any custom recoveries without bootloader getting unlocked.
Step 3. Download LR.Team TWRP for Mi 8 EE from here. The file has image (.img) extension. You need to download the file on both your computer and your phone.
Please download the appropriate build of the Android system underlying your ROM. Check it via Settings >> About phone.
Step 4. On your computer, rename the image file to recovery.img. Right-click on it, then choose Rename.
Step 5. Copy the recovery.img to the ADB folder which is usually located at C:\adb\.
Step 6. Enable USB Debugging option on your phone. This option is available within Developer Options menu. Hence, you have to enable it at first.
Enabling Developer Options, go to:
Settings >> About phone >> tap the MIUI version 7x >> You are developer!
Enable USB Debugging, go to:
Settings >> Additional Settings >> Developer Options >> USB Debugging >> toggle it on.
A notification will pop up on your screen. Tap “OK“.
Step 7. Now connect your Mi 8 EE phone to your computer using its USB cable.
Step 8. On your computer, hold down the Shift key and right-click anywhere inside the ADB folder (C:\adb\). Choose “Open PowerShell window here“.
Step 9. Now type following command and hit Enter key to execute it:
adb reboot bootloader
This instructs your computer to establish ADB connection with your device while verifying any device attached. Second, this also reboots your device into Fastboot mode (bootloader mode).
You will see your phone rebooting and you will also see the Mi Bunny Fastboot logo displayed.
There might be a case that ADB cannot recognize your device. If this happens, try to use different cable or different USB port. Make sure you use data cable – not the charging-only cable.
Step 10. Do the “Hot recovery boot” by typing the command below:
fastboot boot recovery.img
At this stage, your phone shall reboot into TWRP Recovery.
Step 11. Next, do the “Swipe to allow modifications“. You shall enter the main menu afterward.
Step 12. You will then see the main menu of TWRP recovery. Choose “Install“.
Step 13. Tap the “Install Image” button.
Step 14. Find and select the TWRP image file (img) that you have also downloaded to your phone earlier. E.g: TWRP-3.2.3-1106-URSA-9.img
Step 15. Do the “Swipe to Confirm Flash” action. As soon as you swiped, your phone will flash the .img file of LR.Team TWRP.
Step 16. Reboot your phone by tapping on Reboot, then System.
p.s: Somehow if Chinese is the default language, you can change it to English via Settings.
That’s it. The next time you reboot into recovery, the phone will enter TWRP recovery.
