You can now enable MIUI 10 dark mode earlier than any other else by following these steps. Thanks to a bug found within MIUI 10 Global Beta / Developer build.
You can try this method to enable MIUI Dark Mode on Redmi Note 5 Pro/AI (Whyred), Redmi Note 6 Pro (Tulip), Poco F1, (Beryllium), Mi 8 (Dipper), Mi 8 Pro (equuleus), and so on.
As reported by FoneArena, Google has started the development of Android Q that includes system-wide dark mode. Additionally, Xiaomi has also started to develop MIUI 11, the iteration of Xiaomi’s custom skinned Android ROM.
However, it seems that Xiaomi has planted the feature hidden beneath the system of MIUI 10 Beta release. There is no explicit option to enable the MIUI Dark Mode yet.
Interestingly, installing a certain Google App will trigger the activation. We don’t really know whether it is a bug – that will be patched in the next release – or it is a perk for MIUI Beta users.
For you might really know it yet. Xiaomi rolls out MIUI in several builds: Stable build and Beta (Developer) build. Each build is available for three releases: China, Russia, and Global.
Furthermore, each build and each release have are available in two distribution packages: Fastboot and Recovery ROM.
Most people outside China and Russia will receive Xiaomi device running MIUI Global version.
Getting back to the topic, this trick is applicable only on Xiaomi phones running MIUI 10 Beta build. This will not work on the Global build.
Trick to Enabling Dark Mode
Step 1. Flash MIUI Beta/Developer build – if you haven’t so. You can head directly to this official download page.
Step 2. Open up Google Play Store.
Step 3. Search and install Google Messages (Play Store link).
Step 3. Once installed, open the app.
Step 4. Tap on the little drop-down menu at the top right-hand corner of the screen.
Step 5. You will see several options. Choose “Enable Dark Mode”.
Voila! All the user interface of MIUI will turn grey-ish black. That is the elegant dark mode.
All other MIUI default apps including Phone, Contacts, Messaging, Calculator, Gallery, Notes, Screen Recorder, and Updater are now in dark mode.
How cool is that?
